BHM - Black-Owned Luxury Shoe Brands

Congrats! You have made it to the 3rd Edition of the AM:PM London x Black History Month Highlights! So far, we have taken you through a bit of history and now it's time to make it more current. In this post, we are going to provide you with a shortlist of the best Black-Owned Luxury Shoe brands (well, in our opinion anyway). Black people worldwide are known for having a certain flair and innovation in their creations and as we are always in the spirit of supporting Black-Owned businesses so this is by far the most exciting post we have made to date - enjoy!

Brother Vellies was founded in 2013 with the goal of keeping traditional African design practices, and techniques alive while also creating and sustaining artisanal jobs. Now handmade artisanally across the globe, Brother Vellies creates luxury accessories that celebrate cultural histories and timeless design.

AMINAH ABDUL JILLIL is a Luxury Shoe Brand launched in August 2012. Aminah's shoes are known for a bold yet feminine design aesthetic that has led to Global Distribution in over 50 countries including brand partnerships with premier luxury fashion retailers  Harvey Nichols and Level Shoes.

Shekudo, founded in Sydney Australia, began as a women's clothing brand -drawing on heritage, life experiences and a wearable art aesthetic. Now under the sole creative direction of Akudo Iheakanwa, the brand relaunched into footwear and accessories moving its base across the Indian Ocean to commence production in Lagos, Nigeria. With this move, the brand hoped to shed more light on the local artisan and craftsmanship scene whilst integrating some of the age old techniques and overlooked local resources into its own contemporary aesthetic.

As a third generation entrepreneur born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, Kendall has always been the type to forge her own path. Starting Kendall Miles Designs (KMD) as a passion project from her college apartment at the University of Southern California, Kendall completed her degree in International Relations while simultaneously teaching herself how to design footwear. Her designs are adorned with a variety of opulent materials, ranging from the finest leathers and skins, to exotic furs, fine feathers and handsome hardware, all sourced from Italian suppliers.

After years of searching for luxury footwear with no success; Eleanor Anukam, a size 12 herself, embarked on a journey to create an eponymous line of luxury women’s plus size shoes to service this underserved population of women with shoe sizes over 10. “I’m designing for a fashion forward lady with broadened global influences with a thirst to disrupt fashion.” Eleanor Anukam states. "I envision a style that is sexy, modern, and feminine". Supported by the finest manufacturing resources in Brazil, Eleanor sources the most exquisite leathers and hardware handcrafted by master cobblers.

These are the few of many Black Luxury Footwear designers and their brand who are currently making history. We recommend you continue on in doing your own research to finding your favourite Black, Luxury Shoe Brand (hopefully you're already in love with AM:PM!)
